About Me

For as long as memory serves, art has been a faithful companion. During my adult autism assessment, my mother revealed that my obsession with drawing and reading started before I could speak. My pre-nursery and nursery teachers described me as often in a world of my own and would not respond to my name.

That makes sense. Although considerably more socialised than at that age, there is a degree of formality and rigidity to my interactions with people that only ever gets put away when I am creating art. Art is my truest conversation with the world.

The heart of my practice is a pervasive sense of otherness. Subjects like Biology, Psychology and Quantum Mechanics are vehicles through which ideas beyond the tangible can be explored. I am fascinated by questions about where the universe comes from, how identity is formed, the effect of trauma on our emotional baseline and religious belief.

In 2016, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and continue to exhibit symptoms of connective tissue disease mediated by an overactive immune system. The event that led to the diagnoses completely decimated my baseline and changed how I approach life. My energy is now conserved for my son, close family, friends, art and my faith.

In a practical sense, rather than limit myself to a specific visual language, I give myself permission to express visceral reactions to information consumed. That means my work includes a variety of styles and media. I also love working on a large pieces and that is likely to remain.

The loner in me dreams of living off-grid in a small countryside cottage, where I can paint and sculpt to my heart's content.
